حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ رَاهَوَيْهِ، ثنا أَبِي، أَبَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ الثَّقَفِيُّ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ الْحُوَيْرِثِ، قَالَ: أَتَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي نَاسٍ، وَنَحْنُ شَبَبَةٌ مُتَقَارِبُونَ، فَأَقَمْنَا عِنْدَهُ عِشْرِينَ لَيْلَةً، وَكَانَ رَسُولُ الله صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَحِيمًا رَقِيقًا حَلِيمًا، فَظَنَّ أَنَّا قَدِ اشْتَقْنَا أَهْلَنَا وَاشْتَهَيْنَاهُمْ، فَسَأَلَنَا عَمَّنْ تَرَكْنَا بَعْدَنَا فَأَخْبَرْنَاهُ، فَقَالَ: «ارْجِعُوا إِلَى أَهْلِيكُمْ وَأَقِيمُوا عِنْدَهُمْ وَعَلِّمُوهُمْ وَمُرُوهُمْ» ، وَقَالَ: «إِذَا حَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَلْيُؤَذِّنْ أَحَدُكُمْ وَلْيَؤُمَّكُمْ أَكْبَرُكُمْ»
Sayyiduna Malik bin al-Huwayrith (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) as a group of people, young men close in age, and we stayed with him twenty nights. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was very compassionate, gentle and forbearing. He perceived that we were longing for our families and yearning for them, so he asked us about those we had left behind, and we told him. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Return to your families, stay among them, teach them (the religion) and command them." And he said: "When the time of prayer comes, let one of you give the adhan, and let the eldest of you lead you in prayer."
