Abu Tamimah al-Hujaymi relates: He (Sayyiduna Jundub, may Allah be pleased with him) and I set off for Basrah until we reached a place called Bayt al-Miskin, which was (as well known) in Basrah as al-Thawiyyah is in Kufah. He asked: "Have you studied the Qur'an together with anyone?" I said: "Yes." He said: "When we reach Basrah, bring them to me." So I brought Salih bin Musarrih, Abu Bilal, Najdah and Nafi' bin al-Azraq, and on that day they were, in my view, among the most excellent people of Basrah. Then he began narrating hadith to me from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The example of the scholar who teaches people good and forgets himself is like a lamp that gives light to people and burns itself." And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let not a palmful of a Muslim's blood that he shed unjustly come between any one of you and Paradise while he is looking at its gates." Then the people spoke and mentioned enjoining good and forbidding evil, while he remained silent, listening to them. Then he said: "I have never seen, as I have today, a people more deserving of salvation, if they are truthful."
