عَنْ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ صَعْصَعَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَرْمَلِيُّ، أَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ كَعْبٍ، ثنا أَبِي، عَنِ الْخَلِيلِ بْنِ مَرَّةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ صَعْصَعَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو حَفْصٍ عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا هِشَامٌ الدَّسْتُوَائِيُّ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ صَعْصَعَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " بَيْنَا أَنَا فِي الْحَطِيمِ - وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ: فِي الْحِجْرِ - بَيْنَ النَّائِمِ وَالْيَقْظَانِ، إِذَا أَتَانِي آتٍ فَشَقَّ مِنَ النَّحْرِ إِلَى مَرَاقِّ الْبَطْنِ فَاسْتَخْرَجَ قَلْبِي، ثُمَّ أُتِيتُ بِطَسْتٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَغُسِلَ بِمَاءِ زَمْزَمَ وَمُلِئَ حِكْمَةً وَإِيمَانًا، وَأُتِيتُ بِدَابَّةٍ دُونَ الْبَغْلِ وَفَوْقَ الْحِمَارِ، أَبْيَضُ يُقَالُ لَهُ الْبُرَاقُ، يَقَعُ خَطْوُهُ عِنْدَ أَقْصَى طَرْفِهِ، فَحُمِلْتُ عَلَيْهِ، فَانْطَلَقْتُ أَنَا وَجِبْرِيلُ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، حَتَّى أَتَيْنَا سَمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقِيلَ: مَنْ مَعَكَ؟، فَقَالَ: مُحَمَّدٌ، قِيلَ: وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟، قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالُوا: مَرْحَبًا، وَلَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ مَا جَاءَ، فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَدَخَلْنَا، فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى آدَمَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنِ ابْنٍ وَنَبِيٍّ، ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ الثَّانِيَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ، فَقِيلَ: مَنْ مَعَكَ؟، فَقَالَ: مُحَمَّدٌ، قِيلَ: قَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟، قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالُوا: مَرْحَبًا بِهِ، وَلَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ، فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى عِيسَى، وَيَحْيَى فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِمَا، فَقَالَا: مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ أَخٍ وَنَبِيٍّ، ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ الثَّالِثَةَ، فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامَ، فَقِيلَ: مَنْ مَعَكَ؟، قَالَ: مُحَمَّدٌ، قَالُوا: وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟، قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالُوا: مَرْحَبًا بِهِ، وَلَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ، فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى يُوسُفَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ أَخٍ وَنَبِيٍّ، ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ الرَّابِعَةَ، فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقِيلَ: مَنْ مَعَكَ؟، قَالَ: مُحَمَّدٌ، قَالُوا: وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟، قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالُوا: مَرْحَبًا بِهِ، وَلَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ، قَالَ: فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى إِدْرِيسَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ أَخٍ وَنَبِيٍّ، ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ الْخَامِسَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ، فَقِيلَ: مَنْ مَعَكَ؟، قَالَ: مُحَمَّدٌ، قَالُوا: وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟، قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالُوا: مَرْحَبًا بِهِ، وَلَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ، فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى هَارُونَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ أَخٍ وَنَبِيٍّ، ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ السَّادِسَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ، فَقِيلَ: مَنْ مَعَكَ؟، قَالَ: مُحَمَّدٌ، قَالُوا: وَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟، قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالُوا: مَرْحَبًا بِهِ، وَلَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ، فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ: مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنْ أَخٍ وَنَبِيٍّ، فَلَمَّا جَاوَزْتُهُ بَكَى، فَقِيلَ: مَا يُبْكِيكَ؟، فَقَالَ: يَا رَبُّ هَذَا بُعِثَ بَعْدِي يَدْخُلُ مِنْ أُمَّتِهِ الْجَنَّةَ أَكْثَرُ مِمَّا يَدْخُلُ مِنْ أُمَّتِي، ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا السَّمَاءَ السَّابِعَةَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالُوا: مَنْ مَعَكَ؟، قَالَ: مُحَمَّدٌ، قَالُوا: أَوَقَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ؟، قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالُوا: مَرْحَبًا بِهِ، وَلَنِعْمَ الْمَجِيءُ جَاءَ، فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: مَرْحَبًا بِكَ مِنِ ابْنٍ وَنَبِيٍّ، ثُمَّ رُفِعَتْ لَنَا سِدْرَةُ الْمُنْتَهَى، فَسَأَلْتُ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامَ، فَقَالَ: هَذِهِ سِدْرَةُ الْمُنْتَهَى، وَإِذَا نَبْقُهَا كَالْقِلَالِ وَإِذَا وَرَقُهَا كَأُذُنِ الْفِيَلَةِ، وَرَأَيْتُ فِي أَصْلِهَا أَرْبَعَةَ أَنْهَارٍ نَهْرَانِ ظَاهِرَانِ وَنَهْرَانِ بَاطِنَانِ، فَسَأَلْتُ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَقَالَ: أَمَا الْبَاطِنَانِ فَنَهَرَانٌ فِي الْجَنَّةِ، وَأَمَّا الظَّاهِرَانِ فَالنِّيلُ، وَالْفُرَاتُ، ثُمَّ رُفِعَ لَنَا الْبَيْتُ الْمَعْمُورُ، فَسَأَلْتُ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ، فَقَالَ : هَذَا الْبَيْتُ الْمَعْمُورُ يَدْخُلُهُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفِ مَلَكٍ ثُمَّ لَا يَعُودُونَ إِلَيْهِ آخِرَ مَا عَلَيْهِمْ، وَفُرِضَتْ عَلِيَّ خَمْسُونَ صَلَاةً، فَانْطَلَقْتُ حَتَّى أَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَقَالَ: مَا صَنَعْتَ؟، فَقُلْتُ: فُرِضَتْ عَلِيَّ خَمْسُونَ صَلَاةً، قَالَ: إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ بِالنَّاسِ مِنْكَ، فَقَدْ عَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ، وَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَنْ تُطِيقَ ذَلِكَ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنْكَ، فَرَجَعْتُ فَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنِّي فَجَعَلَهَا أَرْبَعِينَ صَلَاةً، فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ، فَقَالَ: مَا صَنَعْتَ؟، قُلْتُ: جَعَلَهَا أَرْبَعِينَ، قَالَ: إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ بِالنَّاسِ مِنْكَ، وَقَدْ عَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ، وَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَنْ تُطِيقَ ذَلِكَ، فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَسَلْهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنْكَ، فَرَجَعْتُ فَسَأَلْتُ رَبِّي فَخَفَّفَ عَنِّي عَشْرًا، فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ: مَا صَنَعْتَ؟، فَقُلْتُ: جَعَلَهَا ثَلَاثِينَ، قَالَ: إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ بِالنَّاسِ مِنْكَ، وَقَدْ عَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ، وَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَنْ تُطِيقَ ذَلِكَ، فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكِ فَسَلْهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنْكَ، فَرَجَعْتُ فَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنِّي فَجَعَلَهَا عِشْرِينَ، فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ: مَا صَنَعْتَ؟، فَقُلْتُ: جَعَلَهَا عِشْرِينَ، قَالَ: إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ بِالنَّاسِ مِنْكَ، وَقَدْ عَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ، وَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَنْ تُطِيقَ ذَلِكَ، فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكِ فَسَلْهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنْكَ، فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَبِّي فَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنِّي فَجَعَلَهَا خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ، فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ: مَا صَنَعْتَ؟، قُلْتُ: جَعَلَهَا خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ، قَالَ: إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ بِالنَّاسِ مِنْكَ، وَقَدْ عَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ، وَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَنْ تُطِيقَ ذَلِكَ، فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكِ فَسَلْهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنْكَ، فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَبِّي فَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنِّي فَجَعَلَهَا عَشْرًا، فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ: مَا صَنَعْتَ؟، قُلْتُ: جَعَلَهَا عَشْرًا، قَالَ: إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ بِالنَّاسِ مِنْكَ، وَقَدْ عَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ، وَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَنْ تُطِيقَ ذَلِكَ، فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكِ فَسَلْهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنْكَ، فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَبِّي فَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنِّي فَوَضَعَ عَنِّي خَمْسًا، فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ: مَا صَنَعْتَ؟، فَقُلْتُ: حَطَّ عَنِّي خَمْسًا، قَالَ: إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ بِالنَّاسِ مِنْكَ، وَقَدْ عَالَجْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَشَدَّ الْمُعَالَجَةِ، وَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لَنْ تُطِيقَ ذَلِكَ، فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكِ فَسَلْهُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنْكَ، قُلْتُ: قَدِ اسْتَحْيَيْتُ كَمْ أَرْجِعُ إِلَى رَبِّي، قَدْ رَضِيتُ وَسَلِمْتَ، فَنُودِيَ: إِنِّي قَدْ أَمْضَيْتُ فَرِيضَتِي، وَخَفَّفْتُ عَنْ عِبَادِي، وَأَجْزِي بِالْحَسَنَةِ عَشْرَ أَمْثَالِهَا "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Malik bin Sa'sa'ah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I was in the Hatim, or perhaps he said: in the Hijr, in a state between sleep and wakefulness, when suddenly someone came to me and split (my chest) from the throat to the lower part of the belly and took out my heart. Then a basin of gold was brought to me, and (my heart) was washed with the water of Zamzam and filled with wisdom and faith. Then a mount was brought to me, smaller than a mule and larger than a donkey, white in colour, called al-Buraq; it placed its hoof at the farthest point of its sight. I was mounted on it, and Jibril (peace be upon him) and I set off until we reached the lowest heaven. Jibril (peace be upon him) asked for the gate to be opened. It was asked: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad. It was asked: Has he been sent for? He said: Yes. It was said: Welcome, and what an excellent arrival! So the gate was opened for us and we entered, and I came to Adam (peace be upon him) and greeted him. He said: Welcome, O son and prophet. Then we reached the second heaven, and Jibril (peace be upon him) asked for the gate to be opened. It was asked: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad. It was asked: Has he been sent for? He said: Yes. It was said: Welcome, and what an excellent arrival! So the gate was opened for us, and I came to Isa and Yahya (peace be upon them both) and greeted them. They both said: Welcome, O brother and prophet. Then we reached the third heaven, and Jibril (peace be upon him) asked for the gate to be opened. It was asked: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad. It was asked: Has he been sent for? He said: Yes. It was said: Welcome, and what an excellent arrival! I came to Yusuf (peace be upon him) and greeted him. He said: Welcome, O brother and prophet. Then we reached the fourth heaven, and Jibril (peace be upon him) asked for the gate to be opened. It was asked: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad. It was asked: Has he been sent for? He said: Yes. It was said: Welcome, and what an excellent arrival! I came to Idris (peace be upon him) and greeted him. He said: Welcome, O brother and prophet. Then we reached the fifth heaven, and Jibril (peace be upon him) asked for the gate to be opened. It was asked: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad. It was asked: Has he been sent for? He said: Yes. It was said: Welcome, and what an excellent arrival! I came to Harun (peace be upon him) and greeted him. He said: Welcome, O brother and prophet. Then we reached the sixth heaven, and Jibril (peace be upon him) asked for the gate to be opened. It was asked: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad. It was asked: Has he been sent for? He said: Yes. It was said: Welcome, and what an excellent arrival! I came to Musa (peace be upon him) and greeted him. He said: Welcome, O brother and prophet. When I passed beyond him, he began to weep. He was asked: What makes you weep? He said: O Lord! Those of the nation of this one, who was sent after me, who enter Paradise are more than those of my nation. Then we reached the seventh heaven, and Jibril (peace be upon him) asked for the gate to be opened. It was asked: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad. It was asked: Has he been sent for? He said: Yes. It was said: Welcome, and what an excellent arrival! I came to Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and greeted him. He said: Welcome, O son and prophet. Then the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary (Sidrat al-Muntaha) was raised up for me. I asked Jibril (peace be upon him), and he said: This is the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary. Its fruits were like earthen jars and its leaves like the ears of elephants. At its root I saw four rivers, two outward and two hidden. I asked Jibril (peace be upon him), and he said: As for the two hidden ones, they are two rivers in Paradise; and as for the two outward ones, they are the Nile and the Euphrates. Then the Frequented House (al-Bayt al-Ma'mur) was raised up for me. I asked Jibril (peace be upon him), and he said: This is the Frequented House; every day seventy thousand angels enter it, and then they never return to it again; that is their last turn. And fifty prayers were made obligatory upon me. I went on until I came to Musa (peace be upon him), and he asked: What did you do? I said: Fifty prayers have been made obligatory upon me. He said: I know people better than you; I have tested the Children of Israel thoroughly, and your nation will not be able to bear that. Go back to your Lord and ask Him for a reduction. So I went back and asked my Lord for a reduction, and it was made forty prayers. I came to Musa (peace be upon him), and he asked: What did you do? I said: They have been made forty. He said: I know people better than you; I have tested the Children of Israel thoroughly, and your nation will not be able to bear that. Go back to your Lord and ask Him for a reduction. So I went back and asked my Lord, and ten were reduced for me. I came to Musa (peace be upon him), and he asked: What did you do? I said: They have been made thirty. He said: I know people better than you; I have tested the Children of Israel thoroughly, and your nation will not be able to bear that. Go back to your Lord and ask Him for a reduction. So I went back and asked Him for a reduction, and they were made twenty for me. I came to Musa (peace be upon him), and he asked: What did you do? I said: They have been made twenty. He said: I know people better than you; I have tested the Children of Israel thoroughly, and your nation will not be able to bear that. Go back to your Lord and ask Him for a reduction. So I went back to my Lord and asked Him for a reduction, and they were made fifteen for me. I came to Musa (peace be upon him), and he asked: What did you do? I said: They have been made fifteen. He said: I know people better than you; I have tested the Children of Israel thoroughly, and your nation will not be able to bear that. Go back to your Lord and ask Him for a reduction. So I went back to my Lord and asked Him for a reduction, and they were made ten for me. I came to Musa (peace be upon him), and he asked: What did you do? I said: They have been made ten. He said: I know people better than you; I have tested the Children of Israel thoroughly, and your nation will not be able to bear that. Go back to your Lord and ask Him for a reduction. So I went back to my Lord and asked Him for a reduction, and five were reduced for me. I came to Musa (peace be upon him), and he asked: What did you do? I said: Five have been reduced for me. He said: I know people better than you; I have tested the Children of Israel thoroughly, and your nation will not be able to bear that. Go back to your Lord and ask Him for a reduction. I said: I have become ashamed of going back to my Lord again and again; I am content and I submit. Then a voice called out: I have enacted My obligation and lightened it for My servants, and I will reward a good deed with ten like it."
