Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 16644 — I heard Sayyiduna Abu Usayd al-Sa'idi

Abu al-Zubayr al-Makki (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I heard Sayyiduna Abu Usayd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him) at a time when Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was giving a ruling permitting (the exchange of) one dinar for two dinars. Abu Usayd (may Allah be pleased with him) spoke and addressed him harshly. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I did not think that anyone who knows my kinship with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would say something like this to me, O Abu Usayd! Abu Usayd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "A dinar for a dinar, a dirham for a dirham, a sa' of wheat for a sa' of wheat, a sa' of barley for a sa' of barley, and a sa' of salt for a sa' of salt; there is no excess in any of these." At this Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: This is something I used to say from my own opinion, and I had not heard anything about it.
