حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ النَّحْوِيُّ الصُّورِيُّ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، ثنا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ مُوسَى، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ رُوَيْمٍ اللَّخْمِيِّ، ثنا أَبُو مِسْكِينٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَة، قَالَ: جَلَسْنَا يَوْمًا أَمَامَ بُيُوتِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فِي رَهْطٍ مِنَّا مَعَاشِرَ الْأَنْصَارِ، وَرَهْطٍ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ، وَرَهْطٍ مِنْ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ، فَاخْتَصَمْنَا فِي رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أَيُّنَا أَوْلَى بِهِ وَأَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِ؟، قُلْنَا: نَحْنُ مَعَاشِرَ الْأَنْصَارِ آمَنَّا بِهِ وَاتَّبَعْنَاهُ وَقَاتَلْنَا مَعَهُ وَكَتِيبَتُهُ فِي نَحَرِ عَدُوِّهِ، فَنَحْنُ أَوْلَى بِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَحَبَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِ، وَقَالَ إِخْوَانُنَا الْمُهَاجِرُونُ: نَحْنُ الَّذِينَ هَاجَرْنَا إِلَى اللهِ وَرَسُولِهِ، فَارَقْنَا الْعَشَائِرَ وَالْأَهْلِينَ وَالْأَمْوَالَ، وَقَدْ حَضَرْنَا مَا حَضَرْتُمْ وَشَهِدْنَا مَا شَهِدْتُمْ، فَنَحْنُ أَوْلَى النَّاسِ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَحَبُّهُمْ إِلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ إِخْوَانُنَا مِنْ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ: نَحْنُ عَشِيرَةُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ حَضَرْنَا الَّذِي حَضَرْتُمْ وَشَهِدْنَا الَّذِي شَهِدْتُمْ، فَنَحْنُ أَوْلَى بِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَحَبُّهُمْ إِلَيْهِ، فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا فَقَالَ: «إِنَّكُمْ لَتَقُولُونَ شَيْئًا» ، فَقُلْنَا مِثْلَ مَقَالَتِنَا، فَقَالَ لِلْأَنْصَارِ: «صَدَقْتُمْ، مَنْ يَرُدُّ هَذَا عَلَيْكُمْ» ، وَأَخْبَرْنَاهُ بِمَا قَالَ إِخْوَانُنَا الْمُهَاجِرُونَ، فَقَالَ: «صَدَقُوا وَبَرُّوا، مَنْ يَرُدُّ هَذَا عَلَيْهِمْ» ، وَأَخْبَرْنَاهُ بِمَا قَالَ بَنُو هَاشِمٍ، فَقَالَ: «صَدَقُوا وَبَرُّوا، مَنْ يَرُدُّ هَذَا عَلَيْهِمْ» ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «أَلَا أَقْضِي بَيْنَكُمْ؟» ، قُلْنَا: بَلَى، بِأَبِينَا وَأُمِّنَّا أَنْتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَقَالَ: «أَمَّا أَنْتُمْ يَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَإِنَّمَا أَنَا أَخُوكُمْ» ، فَقَالُوا: اللهُ أَكْبَرُ ذَهَبْنَا بِهِ وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ، «وَأَمَّا أَنْتُمْ مَعْشَرَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ، فَإِنَّمَا أَنَا مِنْكُمْ» ، فَقَالُوا: اللهُ أَكْبَرُ ذَهَبْنَا بِهِ وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ، «وَأَمَّا أَنْتُمْ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ، فَأَنْتُمْ مِنِّي وَإِلَيَّ» ، فَقُمْنَا وَكُلُّنَا رَاضٍ مُغْتَبِطٌ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: One day we were sitting in the mosque in front of the houses of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): a group of us Ansar, a group of the Muhajirun and a group of Banu Hashim. We began to dispute about the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): which of us had the greater claim to him and was more beloved to him? We said: "We, the Ansar, believed in him, followed him and fought alongside him, and his army stood (with us) at the breast of his enemy; so we have the greater claim to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and are the most beloved to him." Our brothers the Muhajirun said: "We are the ones who emigrated to Allah and His Messenger, leaving behind our clans, our families and our wealth; and wherever you were present we were present, and in whatever battles you took part we took part; so we, of all people, have the greatest claim to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and are the most beloved to him." Then our brothers from Banu Hashim said: "We are the kin of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); wherever you were present we were present, and in whatever battles you took part we took part; so we have the greater claim to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and are the most beloved to him." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us, turned towards us and said: "Are you saying something?" We told him what we had said, and he said to the Ansar: "You have spoken the truth; who could refute this against you?" Then we told him what our brothers the Muhajirun had said, and he said: "They too have spoken the truth and spoken rightly; who could refute this against them?" Then we told him what Banu Hashim had said, and he said: "They too have spoken the truth and spoken rightly; who could refute this against them?" Then he said: "Shall I not judge between you?" We said: "Certainly, may our fathers and mothers be ransomed for you, O Messenger of Allah!" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O company of the Ansar, I am but your brother." They said: "Allahu Akbar! By the Lord of the Ka'bah, we have won it!" "And O company of the Muhajirun, I am but one of you." They too said: "Allahu Akbar! By the Lord of the Ka'bah, we have won it!" "And O Banu Hashim, you are from me and to me." Then we all stood up, each one of us pleased and delighted with the decision of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
