حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْخَفَّافُ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، وَكَانَ قَائِدَ كَعْبٍ مِنْ بَنِيهِ حِينَ عَمِيَ: سَمِعْتُ كَعْبَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ: فَذَكَرَ حَدِيثَ الثَّلَاثَةِ الَّذِينَ خُلِّفُوا، قَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ: «وَلَيْسَ فِي آخِرِ حَدِيثِهِ هَذَا الْكَلَامُ الَّذِي فِي الْحَدِيثِ الْأَوَّلِ» ، قَالَ أَحْمَدُ: «وَأَنَا أَظُنُّ أَنَّ الزُّهْرِيَّ سَمِعَ هَذَا الْكَلَامَ مِنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ مُخْتَصَرًا، وَسَمِعَ الْحَدِيثَ بِسِيَاقِهِ مِنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْهُ»
Abdullah bin Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah have mercy on him), who among the sons of Sayyiduna Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) was his guide when he became blind, said: I heard Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him). Ahmad bin Salih said: Then (the narrator) narrated the hadith of the three who stayed behind. Ahmad bin Salih said: At the end of this narration there are not the words that are at the end of the first narration. Ahmad said: I think that al-Zuhri heard these words from Abdullah bin Ka'b in abridged form, and heard the full hadith with its complete context through his (Abd al-Rahman's) father from him (Ka'b, may Allah be pleased with him).
