قيس بن عاصم المنقري وهو قيس بن عاصم بن سنان بن خالد بن منذر بن عبيد بن مقاعس واسم مقاعس الحارث وإنما سمي مقاعسا لأنه تقاعس حيث تحالفت بنو سعد بن عمرو بن كعب بن سعد بن زيد مناة بن تميم بن إلياس بن مضر بن نزار بن معد بن عدنان
Qays bin Asim al-Minqari (may Allah be pleased with him): Qays bin Asim bin Sinan bin Khalid bin Mundhir bin Ubayd bin Muqais; Muqais's name was al-Harith, and he was called Muqais because he held back when Banu Sad bin Amr bin Kab bin Sad bin Zayd Manat bin Tamim bin Ilyas bin Mudar bin Nizar bin Maadd bin Adnan made their alliance

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، ثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ الْأُبُلِّيُّ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، ثَنَا سِمَاكُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتَ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، يَقُولُ وَسُئِلَ عَنْ قَوْلِهِ {وَإِذَا الْمَوْءُودَةُ سُئِلَتْ} قَالَ: جَاءَ قَيْسُ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: إِنِّي وَأَدَتُ ثَمَانِيَ بَنَاتٍ لِي فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، قَالَ: «أَعْتِقْ عَنْ كُلِّ وَاحِدَةٍ مِنْهَا رَقَبَةً» ، قُلْتُ: إِنِّي صَاحِبُ إِبِلٍ، قَالَ: «اهْدِ إِنْ شِئْتَ عَنْ كُلِّ وَاحِدَةٍ مِنْهُنَّ بَدَنَةً»
Sayyiduna al-Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that he heard Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), when he was asked about the verse of Surah al-Takwir, "And when the girl buried alive is asked," say: Sayyiduna Qays bin Asim (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I buried eight of my daughters alive in the Days of Ignorance. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Free a slave on behalf of each one of them." I said: I am a man of camels. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you wish, send a camel as a sacrificial offering (hady) on behalf of each one of them."
