Sayyiduna Fadalah bin Ubayd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led the people in prayer, several men would fall down from where they stood because of severe hunger, and these were the people of the Suffah, to the point that the Bedouins would say: "These people are mad." When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, he would turn towards them and say: "If you knew what is in store for you with Allah, you would wish that your poverty and need were increased even more." Sayyiduna Fadalah bin Ubayd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I too was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on that day."
