Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that on the Day of Sacrifice, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) seated Sayyiduna al-Fadl bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) behind him on his mount, and al-Fadl was a handsome man. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped to give the people rulings, and a beautiful woman from the tribe of Khath'am came to ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) a ruling. Al-Fadl began looking at her, and her beauty pleased him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned and saw al-Fadl looking at her, so he put his hand behind him, took hold of al-Fadl's chin, and turned his face away from looking at her. Then that woman said: O Messenger of Allah! The obligation of Hajj that Allah has placed upon His servants has come upon my father while he is a very old man; he cannot sit upright on a mount. Will my performing Hajj on his behalf suffice for him? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "Yes, perform Hajj on his behalf."
