Abu al-Ala' (may Allah have mercy on him) said: A young man of the same tribe told me that Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) told him that Abs or Ibn Abs came to him with some people of the tribe of Khath'am, and Sayyiduna Imran (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Raid such-and-such a tribe along with so-and-so." The narrator said: We formed the men into ranks, and the women were behind the men. Then when the army returned, a man said: "O Messenger of Allah, seek forgiveness for me, may Allah forgive you." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Have you committed some new sin?" He said: "When the people were defeated, I caught a man from among the people and the women, and he said: 'I am a Muslim' - or he said: 'I have accepted Islam' - and I killed him. No, by Allah, I did not do (anything else)." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not seek forgiveness for him. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not fight people on any basis other than Islam. By Allah, I will not seek forgiveness for you" - or as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said. The narrator said: Later he died, and his clan buried him, and in the morning the earth had thrown him out. Then they buried him again and guarded him a second time, and the earth threw him out again. Then they said: "Perhaps someone came while you were asleep and took him out." So they buried him a third time and guarded him, and the earth threw him out a third time. When they saw that, they threw him away (as he was) - or as the narrator said.
