Mutarrif bin al-Shikhkhir (may Allah have mercy on him) came to Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him), and he (Sayyiduna Imran (may Allah be pleased with him)) said: I am going to narrate a hadith to you. If I recover from this illness of mine, do not narrate it onward; and if I pass on my way, then narrate it if you see fit, or else leave it: We performed tamattu' (in Hajj) with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not forbid us from it until he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away; then a man holds (something else) by his own opinion.
