Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik al-Ashja'i (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We went on a military expedition with Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him), and with us were Umar bin al-Khattab and Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with them both). Severe hunger struck us. I found some people who wanted to slaughter a camel, so I said: Shall I help you and slaughter it for you, and you give me a share of it? They said: All right. So I did that. I mentioned this to Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and he said: You have hastened your reward for it; I will not eat it. Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) said the same. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came before me, and when he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me he said: "O owner of the camel."
