Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: During the expedition of Tabuk I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the evening while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was in a tent. He (peace and blessings be upon him) heard the sound of my footsteps and said: "Who is this?" I said: Awf bin Malik. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Awf, come in." I said: Shall I come in entirely, O Messenger of Allah? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." I went in and found the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performing a thorough ablution (wudu). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Awf, there are six things before the Hour; what do you count? The first: the death of your Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); say: one." I said: One. I was deeply grieved at that. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The conquest of Iliya (Bayt al-Maqdis); say: two." I said: Two. "Then wealth will be so abundant among you that a man will be given a hundred dinars and he will be displeased; say: three." I said: Three. "Then a plague will be sent upon you like the plague of sheep; say: four." I said: Four. "Then a trial will emerge from among you that will hardly leave any house of the Muslims without entering it; say: five." I said: Five. "Then there will be a truce between you and the Romans; they will break the covenant at its end, and they will keep gathering against you for the length of a woman's pregnancy, then they will come to you under eighty banners, under each banner eighty thousand soldiers."
