Abdullah, the son of Sayyiduna Alqamah bin Faghwa' (may Allah be pleased with him), relates from his father: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went to urinate, we would speak to him but he would not speak to us, and we would greet him (peace and blessings be upon him) with salam but he would not reply to us, until he reached his dwelling and performed ablution (wudu) for prayer. We said: O Messenger of Allah, we speak to you but you do not speak to us, and we greet you but you do not reply to us? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Until the verse of concession was revealed", meaning the verse of Surah al-Ma'idah in which it is said: "O you who believe, when you rise for prayer (then perform ablution)." [al-Ma'idah: 6]
