It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amr (Abu Mas'ud) (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The people should be led in prayer by their best reciter of the Book of Allah. If they are equal in recitation, then the one most knowledgeable of the Sunnah. If they are equal in the Sunnah, then the one who emigrated first. If they are equal in emigration, then the one oldest in age. No man should lead another in prayer within the area of his authority, nor sit in his place of honour in his house except with his permission."
Za'idah said: I asked Sulayman (al-A'mash): "Does 'takrimah' mean the head of his bedding (his special place)?" He said: "Yes."
