Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 14665 — the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ، ثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، ثَنَا زَائِدَةُ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «لِيَلِيَنِي مِنْكُمْ أُولُو الْأَحْلَامِ وَالنُّهَى، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ»
Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amr (Abu Mas'ud) (may Allah be pleased with him) said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: "Let those of you who have intellect and understanding stand closest to me, then those who come after them, then those who come after them."
