حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ: قَالَ رَجُلٌ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: مَا أَشْهَدُ الصَّلَاةَ مِمَّا يُطِيلُ بِنَا فُلَانٌ، فَمَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَضِبَ فِي مَوْعِظَةٍ أَشَدَّ غَضَبًا مِنْهُ يَوْمَئِذٍ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «مَنْ أَمَّ النَّاسَ فَلْيُخَفِّفْ بِهِمْ، فَإِنَّ خَلْفَهُ الضَّعِيفَ وَالصَّغِيرَ وَالْكَبِيرَ وَذَا الْحَاجَةِ»
Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): I am unable to attend the congregational prayer because so-and-so leads us in very long prayers. I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) angrier on any occasion of admonition than he was that day. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever leads the people in prayer should keep it short, for behind him are the weak, the young, the old and the one with a need."
