Sayyiduna Ismah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The most beloved deed to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, is 'subhat al-hadith', and the most hated deed is 'tahdif'." We said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is subhat al-hadith?" He said: "People are talking among themselves while a man keeps glorifying Allah (with his tongue)." We said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is tahdif?" He said: "People are in a good state, then their neighbour and companion ask about their condition and they say, complaining: 'We are in a bad state' (when that is not so)."
