Amr bin Tamim bin Uwaym (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates through his father from his grandfather, Sayyiduna Uwaym bin Sa'idah (may Allah be pleased with him): My sister Mulaykah and a woman from among us called Umm Afif bint Masruh were both married to Hamal bin al-Nabighah. Umm Afif struck Mulaykah, who was pregnant, with the wooden pole of her house, so that both she and the child in her womb died. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ruled blood money (diyah) for Mulaykah, and for her miscarried foetus a ghurrah in the form of a male or female slave. Her brother al-Ala' bin Masruh said: "O Messenger of Allah! Are we to pay a penalty for one who neither ate nor drank, neither saw nor cried out? The blood of such a one should go unavenged." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is this rhymed speech like the rhymed speech of the Jahiliyyah?"
