Muhammad bin al-Qasim al-Ta'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I heard Yahya bin Utbah bin Abd (may Allah have mercy on him) narrating from his father that he, Utbah bin Abd, came with some people who wanted to have their names changed. He said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me, he called me, and I was a young boy at the time. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is your name?" I said: Atalah bin Abd. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, rather you are Utbah bin Abd. Show me your sword." I drew it from its sheath, and when he (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at it, it was a thin and weak sword. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not strike with this; rather, thrust with it."
