Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 14180 — from his grandfather Sayyiduna Umayr bin

Abu Ja'far al-Khatmi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his grandfather Sayyiduna Umayr bin Habib bin Khumashah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was a Companion and had pledged allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) upon reaching puberty. He advised his son, saying: "Beware of sitting with fools, for sitting with them is a disease. Whoever is forbearing towards a fool will be pleased with his forbearance, and whoever befriends him will regret it. Whoever does not tolerate a little of what comes from a fool will have to tolerate a great deal. Whoever is patient with what he dislikes will attain what he loves. When one of you wishes to enjoin good or forbid evil, let him prepare himself to be patient with harm, and let him trust in the reward of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, for whoever trusts in the reward of Allah does not feel the sting of harm."
