Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Sayyiduna Amr bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) had some usury (riba) from the Jahiliyyah still owed (to him by people), and it was this usury that was keeping him from accepting Islam; he wanted to collect his usury first and then accept Islam. One day he came while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was at Uhud, and he asked his people: Where is Sa'd bin Mu'adh? They said: He is at Uhud. He asked: Where is so-and-so? They said: At Uhud. Then he asked about his people? They said: They are (also) at Uhud. So he took his sword and spear, put on his armour, and then went to Uhud. When the Muslims saw him, they said: Keep away from us, O Amr. He said: I have already believed. So he charged forward and kept fighting until he was martyred. He was carried to his family wounded, and Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) came to him and said to his brother: Ask him: Did you come (to fight) out of anger for the sake of Allah and His Messenger? He said: "Yes." Then he passed away and entered Paradise, though he had never prayed a single prayer.
