Sayyiduna Amr bin Awf al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), who was an ally of Banu Amir bin Lu'ayy and was present at the Battle of Badr with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him) to Bahrain, and he brought back its jizyah. It was the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) himself who had made peace with the people of Bahrain and appointed Sayyiduna al-Ala' bin al-Hadrami (may Allah be pleased with him) as governor over them. So Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) came with wealth from Bahrain, and the Ansar heard of his arrival, and they came for the Fajr prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had led them in prayer, they finished (the prayer) and presented themselves before him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled when he saw them and said: "I think you have heard that Abu Ubaydah has brought something?" They said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then rejoice and hope for what will please you. By Allah, it is not poverty that I fear for you; rather, I fear that the world will be spread out for you just as it was spread out for those before you, and you will compete in desire for it just as they did, and it will destroy you just as it destroyed them."
