Kharashah bin al-Hurr (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I came to Madinah and sat in a gathering of elders in the mosque of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). An elderly man came, leaning on a staff, and one of the people said: "This is a man of the people of Paradise." He stood behind a pillar and began to pray two rak'ahs, so I went to him and said: "Some of the people claim that you are a man of the people of Paradise." He said: "Paradise belongs to Allah; He admits to it whomever He wills. In the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) I saw a dream: I saw as though a man came to me and said: 'Come along.' He took me along and brought me onto a broad road. Then a path appeared before me on my left, and I intended to walk on it, but he said: 'You are not of its people.' Then another path appeared before me on my right, so I walked on it until I reached a slippery mountain. He took my hand and threw me upwards, and I was on its summit. I could neither stay still nor keep control of myself. Then I saw a pillar with a ring of gold at its top. He took my hand and threw me upwards until I took hold of the ring. I related this dream to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'You have seen good. As for the broad road, it is the place of gathering (al-mahshar). The path that appeared on your left is the path of the people of the Fire, and you are not of its people. The path that appeared on your right is the path of the people of Paradise. The slippery mountain is the abode of the martyrs. And the ring which you held is the ring of Islam, and you will keep holding it, if Allah wills, until you die. And I hope that I will be among the people of Paradise.'" And he was Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him).
