Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 13954 — he said: In the Jahiliyyah my name was

حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَعْلَى، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَخِي عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ، قَالَ: «كَانَ اسْمِي فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فُلَانٌ، فَسَمَّانِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَبْدَ اللهِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "In the Jahiliyyah my name was so-and-so, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) named me Abdullah."
