حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَامِدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْبَلْخِيُّ، قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: «كَانَ اسْمُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُثْمَانَ، فَسَمَّاهُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَتِيقٌ مِنَ النَّارِ»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "The name of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was Abdullah bin Uthman, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him the title 'Atiq' (the one freed from the Fire)."
