Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 13262 — Sayyiduna Uthman said to Sayyiduna Ibn

Abdullah bin Wahb (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): "Go and become a judge." He said: "Will you not excuse me, O Commander of the Believers?" He said: "No, go and judge between the people." He said again: "Will you not excuse me, O Commander of the Believers?" He said: "No, I bind you to go and judge." He said: "Do not hasten. Did you hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Whoever seeks refuge with Allah has sought refuge with (the greatest) place of refuge'?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Then I seek refuge with Allah from becoming a judge." He said: "What prevents you, when your father used to judge?" He said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Whoever was a judge and judged with ignorance will be among the people of the Fire; and whoever was a knowledgeable judge and judged with truth or with justice, he too will ask to escape even, (with neither reward nor sin)'. So what can I hope for after this?" Abu al-Qasim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: In my view this Abdullah bin Wahb is Abdullah bin Wahb bin Zam'ah, and Allah knows best.
