حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا عَارِمٌ أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى الْبَكَّاءِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَجُلٌ لِابْنِ عُمَرَ: إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّكَ فِي اللهِ، فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ: لَكِنِّي أَبْغَضُكَ فِي اللهِ، قَالَ: وَلِمَ؟ فَقَالَ: «إِنَّكَّ تُنْقِي فِي أَذَانِكِ، وَتَأْخُذُ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا»
Yahya al-Bakka' said that a man said to Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): I love you for the sake of Allah. Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "But I detest you for the sake of Allah." He said: Why? He said: "You put on an affected voice in your call to prayer (adhan), and you take a wage for it."
