Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 12670 — The Prophet ﷺ exiled al-Hakam bin Abi

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا عُبَادَةُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الْأَسَدِيُّ، ثنا مُدْرِكُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الطَّائِيُّ، عَنِ الْأَجْلَحِ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: إِنَّمَا كَانَ نَفْيُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْحَكَمَ بْنَ أَبِي الْعَاصِ مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ إِلَى الطَّائِفِ، بَيْنَمَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي حُجْرَتِهِ فإِذَا هُوَ إِنْسَانٌ يَطَّلِعُ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «الْوَزَغَ، الْوَزَغَ» فَنَظَرَ فَإِذَا هُوَ الْحَكَمُ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «اخْرُجْ لَا تُسَاكِنِّي بِالْمَدِينَةِ مَا بَقِيتُ» فَنَفَاهُ إِلَى الطَّائِفِ
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) exiled al-Hakam bin Abi al-As from Madinah to Ta'if only for this reason: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in his room when suddenly a man began peeping in at him. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is a gecko, this is a gecko." Then he looked, and it was al-Hakam (bin Abi al-As). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Get out! As long as I live, you shall not live with me in Madinah." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) exiled him to Ta'if.
