Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 12662 — A man asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas

Abd al-Rahman bin Abis al-Nakha'i (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated: A man asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): Did you live in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: "Yes, I lived in his time (peace and blessings be upon him) when I was a boy, and it was his wish (peace and blessings be upon him) to attend an Eid. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) went out (for the Eid) and ordered that an anazah (short spear) be planted, and it was planted near the house of Kathir bin al-Salt. He (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed facing it, then admonished the people and preached to them. Then he went over to the women, with no man accompanying him (peace and blessings be upon him) except Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) admonished them too, preached to them with verses of the Qur'an and urged them to give charity. And I saw them reaching for their ears and throats so as to give (their jewellery) in charity to Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him). Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) returned to his family."
