Sayyidah Fatimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I heard the caller of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) announcing: "Gather for the prayer." So I went out with some women of the Ansar until we came to the mosque, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the Zuhr prayer. Then he ascended the pulpit and turned his face towards us, smiling, and then said: "By Allah, I have not gathered you for any new desire or fear, but because of a report which Tamim al-Dari related to me. He came to me, accepted Islam and gave his pledge of allegiance, and he told me that he set sail with thirty men from Lakhm and Judham, two of the Arab tribes of Yemen. The sea caught them in a stormy state, and the waves tossed them about for a month, then cast them, close to sunset, onto one of the islands of the sea. There we saw a very hairy creature whose front could not be told from its back. We said: 'O creature, what are you?' By the permission of Allah it spoke to us in a fluent and eloquent tongue and said: 'I am al-Jassasah.' We said: 'And what is al-Jassasah?' It said: 'Go on from me; make for that monastery at the far end of the island, for in it is a man who is most eager for news of you.' So we went to the monastery, and there we saw a man, the largest in build and the bulkiest in body that I have ever seen. His right eye was wiped out, as if his eye were a drop of phlegm on a plastered wall; both his hands were chained to his neck, and both his legs were bound in fetters from his knees to his feet. We said to him: 'O man, who are you?' He said: 'As for my story, it has already become plain to you, but tell me your story: what brought you to this island? For since I came here no human being has reached this island.' Then he said to us: 'Tell me about the lake of Tiberias: what is its state?' We said: 'About which aspect of it are you asking?' He said: 'Has its water dried up? And has anything strange begun to happen in it?' We said: 'No.' He said: 'It will happen soon.' Then he was silent for a long while, then said: 'Tell me about the spring of Zughar: what is its state?' We said: 'About which aspect of it are you asking?' He said: 'Do its people farm with the water of that spring?' We said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Beware! Soon its water will dry up and its people will not be able to farm with it.' Then he was silent for a long while, then said: 'Tell me about the date palms of Baysan: what is their state?' We said: 'About which aspect of them are you asking?' He said: 'Do they bear fruit?' We said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Beware! Soon they will not bear fruit.' Then he was silent for a long while, then said: 'Tell me about the unlettered Prophet: what is his state?' We said: 'About which aspect of him are you asking?' He said: 'Has he appeared?' We said: 'Yes.' He said: 'What have the Arabs done with him?' We said: 'Some of them have fought him and some of them have believed him.' He said: 'Whoever believed him, that is better for him' — he said this three times. Then we said: 'O man, tell us your story.' He said: 'Do you not recognise me?' We said: 'Had we recognised you, we would not have asked you.' He said: 'I am the Dajjal. Soon I will be permitted to come out, and when I come out I will tread all the lands of the Arabs except Makkah and Taybah. Whenever I intend to enter either of them, an angel will stand before me with a drawn sword and turn me back from it.'" Abu al-Ash-hab said: Amir (al-Sha'bi) related that Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Then I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) raise both his hands until I saw the whiteness of his armpits, then he said: "Listen, this is Taybah" three times. Then he said: "Listen, he (the Dajjal) is towards Syria." Then a swoon came over him (peace and blessings be upon him) for a while, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) trembled, then that state passed, and he said: "Rather, he is in Yemen" three times. Then a swoon came over him (peace and blessings be upon him) for a while and he trembled, then that state passed, and he said: "Rather, he is towards Iraq, rather, he is towards Iraq, rather, he is towards Iraq. He will come out, when he comes out, from a village called Rastaqbadh in a city called Isfahan. When he comes out, at his vanguard will be seventy thousand people wearing tayalisah (shawls). With him will be two rivers, a river of water and a river of fire. So whoever among you lives to see that time and is told: Enter the water, let him not enter it, for in reality it is fire; and when he is told: Enter the fire, let him enter it, for in reality it is water."
