Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 12397 — the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited Surah

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited Surah al-Najm. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) reached the verse: "Have you seen al-Lat and al-Uzza?" [Surah al-Najm: 19] "And Manat, the third, the other?" [Surah al-Najm: 20], Satan cast these words upon his (peace and blessings be upon him) tongue: "These are the exalted goddesses, and their intercession is to be hoped for." So when he (peace and blessings be upon him) prostrated, the Muslims and the polytheists all prostrated. Upon this Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed this verse: "And We did not send before you any messenger or prophet except that, when he recited (or wished), Satan cast something into it" [Surah al-Hajj: 52], up to His saying: "the punishment of a barren Day" [Surah al-Hajj: 55], meaning the Day of Badr.
