Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 12264 — one day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said

حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْأَسْفَاطِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ، ثنا حِبَّانُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي الْمُغِيرَةِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ: «أَفِيكُمْ أَحَدٌ مِنْ هُذَيْلٍ؟» فَلَمْ يُجِبْهُ أَحَدٌ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «أَفِيكُمْ أَحَدٌ مِنْ هُذَيْلٍ؟» , فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ أَنَا وَقَدْ مَاتَ رَجُلٌ مِنْهُمْ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَكَلَّمَ حَيْثُ تَكَلَّمْتُ؟» قَالَ: ظَنَنْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَنَّهُ أُنْزِلَ فِي قَوْمِي شَيْءٌ، فَكَرِهْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ أَنَا الَّذِي آتِيَهُمْ بِهِ. قَالَ: «لَا , إِنَّ صَاحِبَكُمْ مُحْتَبَسٌ بِدَيْنِهِ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that one day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is there anyone among you from Hudhayl?" No one answered him. Then he said: "Is there anyone among you from Hudhayl?" So a man said: I am, and a man from among them had died. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What prevented you from speaking when I asked the first time?" He said: O Messenger of Allah, I thought that something had been revealed about my people, and I disliked being the one to bring that news to them. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, rather your companion is being held back because of his debt."
