حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْفِرْيَابِيُّ، ثنا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ثنا عُمَرُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عِيسَى الثَّقَفِيِّ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ لَمَّا جَاءَ نَعْيُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، دَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ عُمَيْسٍ فَوَضَعَ عَبْدَ اللهِ وَمُحَمَّدًا ابْنِي جَعْفَرٍ عَلَى فَخِذِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ: «إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ اسْتَشْهَدَ جَعْفَرًا، وَأَنَّ لَهُ جَنَاحَيْنِ يَطِيرُ بِهِمَا مَعَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ فِي الْجَنَّةِ» ثُمَّ قَالَ: «اللهُمَّ اخْلُفْ جَعْفَرًا فِي وَلَدِهِ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: When the news of the martyrdom of Ja'far bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) came, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went in to Asma' bint Umays (may Allah be pleased with her), seated the two sons of Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him), Abdullah and Muhammad, on his thigh, and then said: "Jibril (peace be upon him) has told me that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has granted Ja'far martyrdom, and that He has given him two wings with which he flies with the angels in Paradise." Then he said: "O Allah, be Ja'far's successor (in caring) for his children."
