Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 11792 — A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، وَجَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْفَزَارِيُّ الْكُوفِيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا عَبَّادُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْأَسَدِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ الْعَرْزَمِيُّ، عَنْ شَيْبَانَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسِيلُ وَجْهُهُ دَمًا، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي اتَّبَعْتُ امْرَأَةً، فَلَقِيَنِي رَجُلٌ فَصَنَعَ بِي مَا تَرَى، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِذَا أَرَادَ بِعَبْدٍ خَيْرًا عَجَّلَ عُقُوبَةَ ذَنْبِهِ فِي الدُّنْيَا، وَإِذَا أَرَادَ بِعَبْدٍ شَرًّا أَمْسَكَ عَلَيْهِ بِذَنَبِهِ حَتَّى يُوافِيَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ كَأَنَّهُ عِيرٌ»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: A man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with his face streaming with blood. He said: O Messenger of Allah! I followed a woman, and a man met me and did to me what you see. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, when Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, intends good for a servant, He hastens the punishment of his sin in this world; and when He intends evil for a servant, He holds back his sin against him until he comes before Him on the Day of Resurrection as though he were a laden caravan."
