حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، ثنا أَبِي عُثْمَانُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، ثنا رِشْدِينُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حَفْصٍ الْمَكِّيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: نَظَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ إِلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ وَتَبَسَّمَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ: «يَا ابْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، أَتَدْرِي بِمَا تَبَسَّمْتُ إِلَيْكَ؟» قَالَ: اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ، قَالَ: «إِنَّ اللهَ بَاهَى مَلَائِكَتَهُ لَيْلَةَ عَرَفَةَ بِأَهْلِ عَرَفَةَ عَامَّةً وَبَاهَى بِكَ خَاصَّةً»
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that one day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and smiled, then said: "O Ibn al-Khattab! Do you know why I smiled at you?" He said: Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) know best. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty, on the night of Arafah, boasted before His angels about the people of Arafat in general, and about you in particular."
