Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a man bit another man's hand; he pulled his hand away and the biter's front tooth was knocked out, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) declared it void (with no compensation due).
Imam al-Tabarani (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sa'id bin Amr narrated it thus from Sufyan, from Amr, from Ata, from Ibn Abbas, and he erred in it; whereas the students of Ibn Uyaynah narrated it from Ibn Uyaynah, from Amr, from Ata, from Safwan bin Ya'la bin Umayyah, from his father; the students of Ata also narrated it in this way, and that is correct.
