حَدَّثَنَا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ هَذَا الْحَرْفَ {مُسْتَكْبِرِينَ بِهِ سَامِرًا تَهْجُرُونَ} [المؤمنون: ٦٧] قَالَ: «كَانَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ يَهْجُرونَ رَسُولَ اللهِ فِي شِعْرِهِمْ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) followed this reading of the verse: "Arrogant about it, conversing by night, talking obscenities" [Al-Mu'minun: 67], and said: "The polytheists used to lampoon (speak ill of) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in their poetry."
