Dhakwan, the doorkeeper of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), narrated: Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) came to ask permission to enter upon Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her). I came in, and at her head was her nephew Abdullah bin Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakr. I said: This is Ibn Abbas asking permission. Her nephew Abdullah leaned over her and said: This is Ibn Abbas asking permission. She said: What have I to do with Ibn Abbas? I have no need of him. He said: O my mother, Ibn Abbas is one of your righteous sons; he has come to greet you and to bid you farewell. She said: Give him permission if you wish. So I brought him in. When he sat down, he said: Rejoice! She said: What else? He said: Nothing stands between you and meeting Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) except that the soul leaves the body. You were the most beloved of the wives of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) loved only what was pure. Your necklace fell on the night of al-Abwa, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed there until morning, and in the morning the people had no water. So Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed: "Then perform tayammum with pure earth" [Surah al-Nisa: 43]. This happened because of you, and Allah revealed this concession for this Ummah. And Allah Almighty revealed your innocence from above the seven heavens; the Trustworthy Spirit (Jibril, peace be upon him) brought it down. Morning came, and there was not a single one of the mosques of Allah in which Allah is remembered but that it was recited in it night and day. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O Ibn Abbas, leave me alone. By the One in whose hand is my soul, I wish that I had been something forgotten, utterly forgotten.
