It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Jibril (peace be upon him) led me in prayer at the House twice. The first time he led me in the Zuhr prayer when the sun had passed the meridian and the shadow was the size of a sandal strap; then he led me in the Asr prayer when the shadow of everything was equal to it; then he led me in the Maghrib prayer at the time the fasting person breaks his fast; then he led me in the Isha prayer when the twilight had disappeared; then he led me in the Fajr prayer at the time food and drink become forbidden to the fasting person. Then on the next day he led me in the Zuhr prayer when the shadow of everything was equal to it; then he led me in the Asr prayer when the shadow of everything was twice its length; then he led me in the Maghrib prayer at the same time as on the first day, when the fasting person breaks his fast; then he led me in the Isha prayer when the first third of the night had passed; then he led me in the Fajr prayer." (Abu Nu'aym said: I do not recall what he said about Fajr.) Then he said: "Then he turned to me and said: O Muhammad, these are the times of the prophets before you; the time of prayer is between these two times."
