Urwah bin al-Zubayr narrates: In the first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah, Abdullah bin al-Zubayr was forbidding tamattu' in Hajj while Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was sitting there. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) called out to him: We know this matter better; the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did it, and some men came out of ihram and performed tamattu' with Umrah, without having sacrificial animals with them; they performed tawaf of the House and (sa'y) between al-Safa and al-Marwah, and went to their wives. Then Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Yes, I give a fatwa on this, on what was done in the time of the Imam of the God-fearing (the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)). Ibn al-Zubayr said: Then stake your own life on it; by Allah, if you do so, I will stone you with your own stones. Then their conversation ended there.
