Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 10642 — Sa'id bin al-Musayyib and Ikrimah

Sa'id bin al-Musayyib and Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on them both) narrate from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the delegation of Abd al-Qays came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, we are a clan of Rabi'ah, and the disbelievers of Mudar stand between us and you, and we can only reach you in a sacred month. So command us with something which, if we act upon it, we will enter Paradise, and to which we may call those we have left behind." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded them with four things and forbade them four things: he commanded them to worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, to establish the prayer, to pay zakah, to perform Hajj to the House (of Allah), and to give a fifth (khumus) of the spoils of war. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade them four things: drinking from hantam (green glazed jars), dubba' (hollowed gourds), naqir (hollowed wooden vessels) and muzaffat (pitch-coated vessels). They said: "O Messenger of Allah, then from what shall we drink?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Use these waterskins whose mouths are tied."
