Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard of a virtuous deed of Sayyiduna al-Miqdad bin al-Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him) such that, had it been mine, it would have been dearer to me than everything upon which the sun rises: on the day of Badr he stood before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: We will not say to you what the people of Musa (peace be upon him) said: "So go, you and your Lord, and fight" [Surah al-Ma'idah: 24]; rather, we will fight on your right and on your left. I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and it lit up with joy.
