حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْأَسْفَاطِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، ثنا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُهَاجِرٍ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ: شَكَوْنَا الْعُزُوبَةَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: «عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْبَاءَةِ، فَمَنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَعَلَيْهِ بِالصَّوْمِ؛ فَإِنَّهُ لَهُ وِجَاءٌ»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: We complained to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about remaining unmarried (celibate). He said: "Get married, and whoever is not able should fast, for it is a shield (curbing desire) for him."
