Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 10088 — people used to return one another's

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that people used to return one another's greetings during the prayer, until (one day) Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) greeted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with salam, and he did not return his greeting. So he sat down grieved, imagining that something had been revealed concerning him. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished his prayer, Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned it to him, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, in the prayer there is an occupation, and the prayer itself is occupation enough."
