Al-Dahhak bin Muzahim (may Allah have mercy on him) relates that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "O Nafi'! Take me near the road of the pilgrims." This was at the time when his eyesight had become weak. Nafi' did so. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) saw people riding in litters and said: "May Allah have mercy on you; how comfortable you are!" Then he saw people riding on black saddle-bags and said: "You are the real pilgrims. Perhaps I will not meet you after this year, so hear from me a hadith that I narrate to you from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The people of our qiblah are believers; nothing can take them out of faith except the very door through which they entered it."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Commander of the Believers Sayyiduna Umar al-Faruq (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up (on the pulpit) and said: "O people! Soon there will certainly appear in this Ummah people who will deny the punishment of rajm (stoning), deny (the appearance of) the Dajjal, deny the rising of the sun from the west, deny the punishment of the grave, deny (the reality of) intercession, and also deny the taking out (from Hell) of people who will be brought out of Hell after being scorched and turned to charcoal (in the Fire)."
In the narration of Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah there is this addition: "They will deny the divine decree and deny the Pond (of Kawthar)"; however, it does not mention the Dajjal, the rising of the sun or the punishment of the grave.
The narration of Abu Ya'la is the same in meaning as the first narration, except for the mention of the rising of the sun and the punishment of the grave.
The hadith of Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) on this subject has already passed in the chapter on "the splitting of the nations into sects".

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man passed by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the people spoke about him and praised him highly (on account of his outward asceticism and piety). At that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Who will kill him?" Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I will." So he set off and found him praying, having drawn a line around himself (for worship). Seeing him in that (devout) state, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) returned (out of hesitation) and did not kill him. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked again: "Who will kill him?" Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I will." He went and found him praying within that same line of his, so he too returned without killing him. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked (a third time): "Who will kill him?" Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I will." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You (are the one suited to kill him), but I do not think you will find him." The narrator said: When Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) got there, he saw that the man had already gone from there.
Abu Ya'la narrated it by way of Abu Khaythamah from Yazid bin Harun with this same previous chain.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man was mentioned before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) who struck the enemy hard and was very devoted to worship. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not recognise this man." The Companions said: Of course (O Messenger of Allah)! His qualities and appearance are such and such. He (peace and blessings be upon him) again said: "I do not know him." Meanwhile that man appeared, and the Companions said: O Messenger of Allah! This is the man. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I did not recognise him. This is the first (trouble-making) faction that I see in my Ummah; on his face is the mark of the ill omen of Satan." Then, when the man came near, he gave the greeting of peace and the Companions returned his greeting. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "I ask you by Allah: when you came to us, was it not in your heart that there is no one in this whole gathering better than you?" He replied: 'Allahumma na'am' (O Allah, yes). Then the man entered the mosque and began to pray. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him): "Get up and kill him." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) entered the mosque and found him standing in prayer. He thought to himself: Prayer certainly has a sanctity and a right; (it is better that) I take the command of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about it again. So he came back, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "Did you kill him?" He said: No; I saw him standing in prayer, and I felt that prayer has a sanctity and a right. If that is still your command, I will kill him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are not the one to kill him." Then he said: "O Umar! Go and kill him." So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) entered the mosque and found him in prostration. He waited a long while, then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) thought to himself: Prostration certainly has a right; if only I consult the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) again, for one better than me (Abu Bakr) also did the same. So he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who asked: "Did you kill him?" He said: No; I found him in prostration, and I felt that prostration has a great right. If you still wish me to kill him, I will do so? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You too are not the one to kill him. O Ali! Get up; if you find him, you are the one to kill him." When Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) got there, he saw that the man had already left the mosque. He returned to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who asked: "Did you kill him?" He said: No. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Had he been killed today, no two men of my Ummah would ever have differed or split until the coming of the Dajjal."
This hadith is gharib (singular), and the narrator in its chain, Abu Ma'shar, is da'if (weak).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: We were in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man came forward who outwardly appeared to be of very pious bearing and good manners, and the people said good words about him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, I see on his face the trace of the blackness of Hell." Then, when the man came near and gave the greeting of peace, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him (the narrator said: I think he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him by adjuring him by Allah): "Did you think to yourself that you are the best and most excellent of this whole gathering?" He replied: "Yes." Then, when the man turned his back and went away, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, the horn of this (trial) has appeared, and his companions will be of his faction." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Shall I not kill him?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes (certainly)." Then the narrator related the rest of the story briefly, like the previous narration.
At the end of this narration it is mentioned that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) set off (to kill him) but could not find him, and then he mentioned what came after that. Imam al-Bazzar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: To our knowledge this hadith is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) only through this chain, and the narrator named Sharik is alone in narrating it. I (Ibn Hajar, the author) say: Sharik has also been contradicted in this narration, as mentioned earlier, for it has also been narrated by way of Abu Sufyan from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him); although, apart from Sharik's narration, it is also narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) himself through another chain, as you can see. And on this subject, a narration from Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) is also found with Imam Ahmad and other hadith scholars.
