بَابُ الدُّعَاءِ عِنْدَ اللقاء والأمر بالصمت
Supplication when meeting the enemy and the command to keep silent

قَالَ الْحَارِثُ : حَدَّثَنَا السَّكَنُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ ، ثَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ حُدَيْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مِجْلَزٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا لَقِيَ الْعَدُوَّ قَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ عَضُدِي وَنَاصِرِي ، بِكَ أَحُولُ ، وَبِكَ أَصُولُ ، وَبِكَ أُقَاتِلُ .
قُلْتُ : أَخْرَجَهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ أَتَمَّ مِنْهُ مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ وَهُوَ عِنْدَ التِّرْمِذِيِّ وَالنَّسَائِيِّ . أَيْضًا كُلُّهُمْ مِنْ رِوَايَةِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْهُ ، وَرَأَيْتُ فِي نُسْخَةٍ : عَنْ أَبِي مِجْلَزٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، فَعَلَى هَذَا لَا يُسْتَدْرَكُ .
قُلْتُ : أَخْرَجَهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ أَتَمَّ مِنْهُ مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ وَهُوَ عِنْدَ التِّرْمِذِيِّ وَالنَّسَائِيِّ . أَيْضًا كُلُّهُمْ مِنْ رِوَايَةِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْهُ ، وَرَأَيْتُ فِي نُسْخَةٍ : عَنْ أَبِي مِجْلَزٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، فَعَلَى هَذَا لَا يُسْتَدْرَكُ .
It is narrated from Abu Mijlaz (may Allah have mercy on him) (and according to one manuscript, from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him)) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) engaged the enemy in battle, he would make this supplication: 'Allahumma anta 'adudi wa nasiri, bika ahulu, wa bika asulu, wa bika uqatil' (O Allah, You alone are my arm (my strength and support) and my helper; by Your enabling I plan and move (against the enemy), by Your help I attack, and by Your aid I fight).
I (Ibn Hajar) say: Imam Abu Dawud recorded this hadith in a more complete form from the narration of Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), and Imam al-Tirmidhi and Imam al-Nasa'i also recorded it, all of them through Abu Sa'id from Qatadah from Sayyiduna Anas. I saw it in one manuscript as the narration of Abu Mijlaz from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him); on that basis it is not to be counted as an additional (zawa'id) report.

قَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا أُمَيَّةُ بْنُ بِسْطَامٍ ، ثَنَا مُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، ثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي رُهْمٍ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : إِنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى يُحِبُّ الصَّمْتَ عِنْدَ ثَلَاثٍ : عِنْدَ تِلَاوَةِ الْقُرْآنِ ، وَعِنْدَ الزَّحْفِ ، وَعِنْدَ الْجِنَازَةِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed Allah Almighty loves silence on three occasions: at the recitation of the Noble Qur'an, at the advance towards the enemy ranks in jihad, and at the funeral." The chain of this report contains an unnamed (unknown) narrator.
