بَابُ فَضْلِ الرباط وَفَضْلِهِ عَلَى الْعِبَادَةِ

قَالَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنِ الْأَزْرَقِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ عَسْعَسَ بْنِ سَلَامَةَ ، قَالَ : إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ فِي سَفَرٍ ، فَفَقَدَ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَأُتِيَ بِهِ ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّي أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَخْلُوَ بِعِبَادَةِ رَبِّي ، فَأَعْتَزِلَ النَّاسَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : فَلَا تَفْعَلْ ، وَلَا يَفْعَلْهُ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ - قَالَهَا صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثَلَاثًا - فَلَصَبْرُ سَاعَةٍ فِي بَعْضِ مَوَاطِنِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ خَيْرٌ مِنْ عِبَادَةِ أَرْبَعِينَ عَامًا .
1952 \ 2 - وَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ : حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، ثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ الْأَزْرَقَ بْنَ قَيْسٍ يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ عَسْعَسَ بْنَ سَلَامَةَ ، يَقُولُ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرِهِ ، فَذَكَرَهُ .
1952 \ 2 - وَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ : حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، ثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ الْأَزْرَقَ بْنَ قَيْسٍ يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ عَسْعَسَ بْنَ سَلَامَةَ ، يَقُولُ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرِهِ ، فَذَكَرَهُ .
It is narrated from As'as bin Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was on a journey when he (peace and blessings be upon him) found one of his Companions missing. When he was brought, he said: I had resolved to seclude myself for the worship of my Lord and withdraw from people. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not do so, and let none of you ever do so." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times, and said: "Indeed, being patient for one hour at one of the fronts or gatherings of the Muslims is better than forty years of (solitary) worship."
Imam al-Harith, in his chain, narrated through Rawh and Shu'bah from al-Azraq bin Qays that he heard As'as bin Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was on one of his journeys; then he related the complete incident in the same way.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ ، ثَنَا بُكَيْرُ بْنُ الْأَخْنَسِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ ، عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : رِبَاطُ يَوْمٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ يَعْدِلُ عِبَادَةَ شَهْرٍ أَوْ سَنَةٍ ، صِيَامَهَا وَقِيَامَهَا ، وَمَنْ مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ تَعَالَى أَعَاذَهُ اللهُ تَعَالَى مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ ، وَأَجْرَى لَهُ أَجْرَ رِبَاطِهِ مَا قَامَتِ الدُّنْيَا .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Guarding (the frontiers) for one day in the path of Allah is equal to a month's or a year's (voluntary) worship, that is, its fasts and the standing in prayer of its nights. And whoever dies while on guard duty in the path of Allah Almighty, Allah Almighty protects him from the punishment of the grave and keeps the reward of that guard duty of his flowing for him as long as the world remains (until the Day of Resurrection)."
