قَالَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ ، عَنْ صَالِحٍ مَوْلَى التَّوْأَمَةِ قَالَ : أَدْرَكْتُ رِجَالًا مِمَّنْ أَدْرَكَ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَأَبَا بَكْرٍ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - إِذَا جَاؤُوا فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا إِلَّا أَنْ يُصَلُّوا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ رَجَعُوا فَلَمْ يُصَلُّوا .
882 \ 2 - وَقَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ : أَخْبَرَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ ، وَمَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ ، عَنْ صَالِحٍ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ الْجِنَازَةَ تُوضَعُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَرَأَيْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - إِذَا لَمْ يَجِدْ مَوْضِعًا إِلَّا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ انْصَرَفَ وَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَيْهَا .
882 \ 2 - وَقَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ : أَخْبَرَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ ، وَمَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ ، عَنْ صَالِحٍ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ الْجِنَازَةَ تُوضَعُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَرَأَيْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - إِذَا لَمْ يَجِدْ مَوْضِعًا إِلَّا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ انْصَرَفَ وَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَيْهَا .
Imam al-Tayalisi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated from Ibn Abi Dhi'b, and he from Salih the freed slave of al-Taw'amah, who relates: I met eminent men who had seen the blessed era of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him); their practice was that when they came to offer a funeral prayer and found no place available other than the mosque, they would go back and would not offer the funeral prayer inside the mosque.
Similarly, Imam Abd al-Razzaq, by way of Imam Sufyan al-Thawri and Ma'mar, reported this observation of Salih: I saw that when a bier was placed in the mosque and Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) found no place for the prayer other than the mosque, he would go back and would not offer the prayer over that funeral in the mosque.
