It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "O my dear son, hold firmly to performing all the parts of ablution perfectly with all their etiquettes, that is, isbagh al-wudu'; by its blessing your two guardian angels who record your deeds will come to love you, and your life will be lengthened. And O Anas, be thorough in drawing water into the nose in the bath for janabah; for when you bathe in this way, you will come out of your bathing place in a state where no sin or fault remains upon you." I said: O Messenger of Allah, how is one to be thorough? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That you moisten the roots of the hair well and clean your skin thoroughly. O my dear son, if you are able to spend every moment in a state of ablution, then do so, for the one to whom death comes while he is in a state of ablution is granted the rank of martyrdom."
